Prepare a manufacturing credit note in GBP or USD. Keep order, delivery and original-line references together.

What it's for
UK credit note in GBP. Keep order, delivery and original-line references together.
What you can download
Available files: UK PDF, UK Excel, US PDF, US Excel. Each PDF includes the blank form first, a fictional completed example and instructions. The Excel workbook includes an unused template and a separate completed example, with labelled inputs, calculation cells and print settings. Choose the UK or US version in the download form. The download is free; enter your email to receive a secure link valid for seven days. Product-news consent is optional.
Completed manufacturing example
The UK example credits two returned brackets at £25 each and a £5 price correction on another original line. Net credit is £55; the example’s 20% VAT is £11, giving a total credit of £66.
Positive credited amounts reduce the original invoice. Record the reason, original invoice number and date, and affected lines. Confirm the tax treatment of the original supply. The US credit memo uses USD and user-entered tax details; a credit does not automatically mean a cash refund.
When to use this template
Based on HMRC VATREC5010 and Keeping VAT records. This ordinary domestic GBP form does not cover every special VAT scheme or cross-border supply.
Reference guidance: HMRC credit-note guidance.

How to use it
- Choose UK (GBP) or US (USD), then PDF or Excel. Enter a unique credit-note number, issue date, seller and customer details.
- Reference the original invoice and date, affected lines and reason for credit. Use positive quantities or price corrections to show the amount reducing the invoice.
- Round each line net amount to two decimals, then round the tax for that line. Add the rounded lines to obtain net, tax and total credit.
- For a UK VAT credit note, retain the original supply references, credited net value and VAT rate and amount in sterling. Confirm the adjustment with the applicable HMRC guidance. For the US version, enter the relevant tax and jurisdiction details.
