What it's for

Agree the start, end and customer requirements before mapping the detailed work.

What you can download

Available files: PDF. Each PDF includes the blank form first, a fictional completed example and instructions. The download is free; enter your email to receive a secure link valid for seven days. Product-news consent is optional.

Completed manufacturing example

The manufacturing example follows an accepted order through planning, material supply, production, quality release and dispatch. Each high-level step identifies the supplying party, the required input, the output and its next customer.

Use SIPOC to agree where the process starts and ends. It shows hand-offs and requirements; a detailed process map or SOP is needed for decisions, loops, task sequence and timings.

When to use this template

A process-scoping worksheet, not a detailed operating procedure.

How to use it

  1. Agree the start and end with the process owner.
  2. Describe five to seven high-level steps. Identify each supplier/input and output/customer relationship and the requirement at that hand-off.
  3. Use a detailed process map for task decisions, loops and timings; do not turn the SIPOC into a routing.
